James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is an international collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). JWST was built on the legacy of previous space-based telescopes to push the boundaries of human knowledge even further, to the formation of the first galaxies and the horizons of other worlds. CSA has contributed two important instruments, built by Honeywell, to this telescope: Fine Guidance Sensor (FGS), which allows the telescope to point at and focus on objects of interest and the Near-Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS), a scientific instrument that helps study many astronomical objects, from exoplanets to distant galaxies.

Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC) provides access to all public (non-proprietary) JWST data in raw and processed formats.

The following tutorial on the Canadian Space Agency’s GitHub page equips the users to access and extract JWST data from CSA. Moreover, to illustrate the potential applications of this data, the tutorial guides users in counting the number of galaxies from a sample JWST image: GitHub - asc-csa/James-Webb-Space-Telescope-Tutorial: 🔭 The code provided in this tutorial demonstrates how to download and utilize data from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
